In 1996 Loretta Sanchez won the election over incumbent Robert K. Dornan by a margin of 984 votes. Post-election investigation determined that 748 votes that she got were in fact from illegal voters.

Don't you think we should focus more on illegal voting itself than on the "threatening" letters? Isn't it true that if a non-citizen vote, he or she will get sent to jail or deported? I believe that the part about the "immigrant" not being able to vote is miswritten because it came from a writer who wrote "bad" Spanish...Come on everyone, we ALL know that immigrants who are NOT naturalized citizens are not allowed to vote...I firmly believe that the letter's purpose was to inform illegal residents only...

TAN NGUYEN SENT THESE LETTERS TO NATURALIZED US CITIZENS!!!!
HE WAS TRYING TO SCARE LATINO VOTERS AWAY FROM THE POLLS!
And besides, if undocumented immigrants are so scared that they never go with their kids to school...
Or report substandard working conditions to the authorities...
Or in some cases, even step OUTSIDE HOME...
What makes you think they're willing to risk everything to vote?
Also, I'd recommend an article from CQ back in 1998 about B-1 Bob Dornan's 13-month crybaby act after losing to Loretta in 1996:

Here's a nice excerpt from there:

Those VERY FEW illegal votes were THROWN OUT...
